Health and Safety Manager

£43,098 - £50,109

Applications Close: 21st April 2024 - 12pm

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced leader to join the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Team. We are looking for a proactive and pragmatic person to manage the health and safety team in providing health and safety advice and support to Staffordshire Police and the Office of the Police Fire and Crime Commissioner.

This is a full-time role with the benefits of flexible working, and is part of the multidisciplinary Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Team.

You will have a proven track record of leading and embedding a positive health and safety culture within a large organisation, and experience of influencing senior leaders in terms of driving health and safety forward. You will have an active interest in establishing best practice, using recognised tools such as audits to explore opportunities for continuous improvement.

You must possess a suitable health and safety qualification and be able to evidence how you maintain competency, ensuring you are up to date on any legislative changes, while looking to the future. To be able to support the specialist nature of this team, as a minimum you must be, or actively working towards, Chartered Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

You will also support the daily running of the unit with the other Unit Managers, working closely with the Head of OHSW, ensuring that the unit runs effectively and efficiently, and that the service provided is of the highest quality.

Excellent organisational and communication skills are vital, along with an enthusiasm to maintain a positive health and safety culture in an ever changing and challenging environment.

While the role is Mon-Fri, office hours, you must be willing to support both organisations out of hours where exceptional circumstances arise.

If an appointment is made from that at-risk group, the post may be withdrawn. In this event, a representative from the Enabling services team will notify any affected applicants.

Staffordshire have a strong commitment to equality and diversity in our people, within the organisation and in the services, we provide to our communities.

We want to reflect the communities we serve and one way we can try to achieve this is through a 'positive action' approach.

Positive action is activity which helps employers identify and remove barriers and issues to the recruitment, retention and progression of people who identify with underrepresented groups of the Equalities Act 2010 (i.e. LGBT+, ethnicity, disability), whilst still employing people on merit.
