Prosecution Caseworker 

Grade E - £23,835 - £27,690

Location – Southern Prosecution Hub - Cannock

Closing date – Tuesday 11th April 2023 - 12 Midday.

Successful candidates will be responsible for the comprehensive management of a case file on receipt from an OIC (officer in the case) through the Criminal Justice System to its outcome; registering, building/preparing and submitting case files in accordance with non-negotiable prosecution deadlines.    

As part of comprehensive case management, the post holders maintain contact with victims and witnesses throughout the lifecycle of a case and provide support for victims and witnesses in the lead up to and conclusion of trial proceedings. Post holders have a responsibility to recognise vulnerability when liaising with victims and witnesses and are able to refer or signpost them to the appropriate support services.  

Working on complex case files will involve dealing with both Guilty Anticipated Plea (GAP) and Not Guilty Anticipated Plea (NGAP) case files, which may be heard within a Magistrates Court setting or which relate to Guilty Anticipated Plea files, or are to be heard at Crown Court. Postal Charge Requisition matters, Initial Remand in Custody files and full file upgrades will fall under the responsibility of the post holder. As a result successful candidates will be expected to show adeptness in and understanding of the National File Standard and a working understanding of current Criminal Justice initiatives, such as Better Case Management and Transforming Summary Justice.  

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills for such tasks as communicating with CPS and Magistracy when appropriate, conducting telephone statements, despatching compensation forms, maintaining record management systems and tasking OICs as necessary. Communicating effectively with customers regarding disposal options and recommendations for cases forms part of the role.

Alongside the management of a complex caseload, the post holder will be expected to offer and provide coaching / mentoring / appropriate guidance to colleagues within the Prosecution Hub, to engender a learning culture.  

Knowledge & Qualifications  
Demonstrate working knowledge or agree to undertake learning (support and learning materials will be provided) in areas of policy, procedure, traffic and criminal law.   
Demonstrate an ability to compile professional, grammatically correct reports and letters.  
Demonstrable experience and regular use of the Microsoft Office suite of programs and be prepared to learn new computer packages/force networked systems. 

Flexi Time working, 37 hours per week. Saturday working is required on a published rota basis.
